LVCA And New Businesses Revive The Arts Scene In Adrian Michigan
Looking for a city that is big on cultural charm and not on overcrowding? Then Adrian is the choice for you. The location is both central to the metropolitan cites of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio so it’s an ideal commuter town. There are plenty of festivals and events throughout the year including the “Lenawee County Fair,” (the oldest fair in the state) “Art-A-Licious,” and the popular “Madison Craft Show.” The arts scene has been invigorated by the “LCVA” “Lenawee Council For The Visual Arts” who have their own renowned gallery and host art events throughout the city. First Saturdays tour all of the galleries downtown and for such a small town there are happily quite a few of them to choose from. There is also the “Lenawee Historical Museum” for an enlightening look into Adrian’s past. Downtown is also picking up speed with coffee houses, eclectic eateries, jewelry, clothing and independent book and music stories now dotting the landscape. So, it’s a refreshing break from the mall culture, but don’t worry the malls are still there too! For music lovers there is the “Adrian Symphony Orchestra” and rock, folk and pop acts playing at local nightspots and coffeehouses on a daily basis. Or if theater is more to your liking why not catch a play or musical in the historic building that was formerly the “Union Hall” opened in 1866, but now stands beautifully restored as the “Croswell Opera House”? While the players are mainly community volunteers, professional actors visit often to lend their expertise and star power to the productions, so you never know who you may recognize on stage.
